For the past several years, I have had people tell me that I would have a child because God will give you the desire of your heart. I do believe that God provides those blessings, but not in that way all of the time. About a year ago I went to a conference where the speaker spoke on this passage. The difference in hearing her speak on it was that she kept reading the scripture.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
What I learned was that we must delight ourselves in the Lord, commit our ways to Him, trust him, and wait patiently. That was a huge revelation for me that day because I clearly heard God telling me to just wait. Wait for what? I had no clue, but I knew God had my best interest in mind and whatever he wanted me to wait on would be worth the wait. Even if I hadn't become pregnant, it was worth the wait.
And what does it really mean to "delight" yourself in the Lord? It means to take great pleasure. We are all waiting on something...a spouse, a child, a home, a job, and the list could go on. Do we take great pleasure in the Lord while we wait or do we become sad, disappointed or bitter that we have to wait? The bible says to "delight" therefore I hope to always be full of delight in the Lord and patiently wait for all the plans He has for me. God is so good and we are blessed!
